That's probably the opposite of what most people say, but especially lately, I really hate weekends! I work every weekend, three 12 hour shifts 7pm-7am Fri, Sat, & Sun. Plus I usually pick up overtime on Thurs night 11pm-7am. I switched to that position a little over 3 years ago after my first daughter was born-mainly because I wasn't getting ANY sleep working midnights 8 hour shifts 5-6 days a week. So, I guess in some ways, this position is better. After all, I do get to be home with my kids all week long. But I think I'm killing myself in the mean time.
I don't know if anyone else heard the news report that third-shifters are at higher risk for colon cancer because their bodies usually don't produce enough melatonin, which helps prevent certain types of cancer. Melatonin is produced (usually at night) during REM sleep. I don't know many midnighters that get a whole lot of sleep, lol.
Now I'm afraid I'm killing myself even quicker! I get little sleep, only average 4-5 hours a day, interrupted every 1 1/2-2 hours by my lovely children and/or husband, lol. I know it will get better as they get older...they're such a handful right now.....waaaay too much energy! Wish I could bottle it!
On top of the no sleep thing, the patients I've had to take care of lately have been very sick. A lot of them belong in the intensive care unit, but half the time there just aren't any icu beds available. So I end up with 3 or 4 semi-stable, and sometimes unstable patients. That makes for a very stressfull weekend by itself. The no sleep thing on top of that makes it even more difficult. I'm always afraid I'll miss something, or won't be able to think straight in critical situations.
Oh well. I guess if you weigh out the pros and cons, this is probably the best thing for my family right now. I'm sure I'll have to change eventually, but for now I still hate weekends.

I love sports. My favorite is baseball. I LOVE baseball !! Since I was born and raised (mostly) in Michigan, it's only right that my absolute favorite team is the Detroit Tigers!!!
